Scientific Experiment Tools
Gospel Living

Sometimes a scientific finding disagrees with something we believe.

Here are 3 things to consider.

“God is the source of all truth,” President Russell M. Nelson has taught. “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embraces all truth that God conveys to His children, whether learned in a scientific laboratory or received by direct revelation from Him.”1

If people say science contradicts a gospel truth, keep in mind:

  1. Sometimes information is misreported. Find out what the scientific research actually claims and doesn’t claim. Sometimes media—especially social media—distorts the facts. Also study what the restored gospel of Jesus Christ says about the topic. What do the scriptures and the modern prophets say?
  2. Spiritual knowledge is real. Science is a method for learning truths about the physical world. But there are some truths God gives us only through revelation, truths that can’t be measured by physical instruments. You can have faith that the Holy Ghost “speaketh of things as they really are” (Jacob 4:13).
  3. Truth usually requires patience. Scientific knowledge is revised over time. Sometimes we have to wait for science to catch up with revealed eternal truth. And often it takes patience to receive spiritual answers to our gospel questions. In the meantime, we can hold onto larger spiritual truths while details are filled in.

Science Is Awesome

Many Church leaders have spent their lives studying different scientific fields. What are some ways that you see science reinforcing gospel truths?
